As a child and adolescent therapist, Risa’s practice is focused in the treatment of generalized anxiety, specific phobias, depression, anger management, aggression, oppositional behavior, social anxiety, social conflicts and challenges, school refusal, school related issues, trauma, family difficulties and relationship issues, self esteem, and issues associated with ADHD and High Functioning Autism.
Risa genuinely enjoys helping to facilitate the significant changes that her clients make throughout the course of treatment.
She uses an integrated approach including cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and client-centered techniques, and works closely with each of her clients in determining the best treatment approach in addressing their specific needs.
Risa Lurie has extensive experience of over 20 years in treating school-aged children, young adults, women, parents, and families with a variety of presenting issues. She has provided individual, family, and group therapy in several different settings including schools, behavioral health agencies, outpatient clinic settings, and private clinical practice.
A compassionate, attentive, and dedicated clinician, Risa Lurie believes that treatment is a cooperative team effort comprising the therapist, child, parents and caregivers, and other important resources, including school professionals and outside providers. She works closely and collaboratively with all parties involved to ensure the most comprehensive treatment.
Risa Lurie received her Master of Science degree in Counseling and Development at Long Island University with a specialization in school counseling. She holds a B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany.
